I've seen it a lot in manga and novels but do gingko fruits smell that bad? Cause I've smelled other 'smelly' stuff people say like Durian and Blue Cheese but it's usually not all that bad.

A street near where I used to work was planted with female Ginko trees (male trees don't produce fruit BTW) and when the fruit was on the ground it smelt like vomit. So take their word for it the smell is bad. They have distinctive leaves that are shaped similar to duck's feet.
