These large scale battles are incredibly cool, it's a completely different kind of exciting than the one-on-one fights. Even small things, like Lucas aligning the infantry and cavalry so they can run through each other without trampling one another are so cool to me.

I really appreciate seeing the perspective of the common soldiers. And even the facsimiles are treated as people. It would have been so easy for the series to go "oh, the enemy army are just mindless clones, don't worry about it", but this series never takes the easy way out. I really admire how it doesn't shy away from getting messy.

This series does a great job at making the conflict feel like a proper, bloody, medieval war.

I've just realised that the reason Lucas won't be allowed to leave peacefully after defeating the Garland isn't just the fact that the Pope has more use for him. It's also the fact that he is quickly becoming too dangerous to be allowed to act by himself.

Earlier, I speculated that Lucas's power borders on mind control. The fact the Pope mentions how his ability interferes with the mind and the way that soldier was oblivious to his wound seem to support that (although the latter might just be the adrenaline).

I find it interesting how the Imperator in this chapters seems to be probing at the same thing Udo has been trying to get across to Lucas earlier - i.e. the weight of responsibility that lies in being a commander of an army. I can't shake the feeling that right now Lucas does not see the soldiers as much more than pawns though, means to achieve his objective and free himself and Zoe. I think that's especially interesting in the context of how both his power and the setting as a whole (with towers having an actual measurable range of influence and having to be captured for victory) feel really RTS-adjacent.

Exactly. This is another example of what I meant by the series willing to be "messy", and also part of why I find Lucas to be such an interesting MC: he's obviously very sharp, but also full of a lot of half-formed ideas. Considering his upbringing, this makes perfect sense. Seeing the mercenaries pillage towns all the time gave him a very low opinion of soldiers in general. Like the other characters pointed out, even caring about the other rami is a step up compared to how he was in the beginning, but he has a LONG way to go to understanding the weight of his actions. He's also half-formed emotionally, as seen in his feelings towards Zoe. To me, that's what makes it so cool to see him grow over time.

Yeah, the Garland is totally nowhere inside the fortress, and the area blocked from Demi's vision is a distraction.
doubt it, they're running out of time before it strikes and the garland isnt the end of the series, plus the place is way more guarded then the others

What if Lucas is the garland's father? I wouldn't put that kind of twist past this series. We already have space bending and some kind of foresight, for lack of better descriptions. Time shenanigans aren't that far away already.

Edit: Foresight, what the hell am I saying. It was pretty clear he's actually rewinding time or something already. But you get my point.

Lucas' power is scary.

Just imagine... perfect cohesion between thousands of soldiers, no lagging between decisions and actions, perfect mimicry of tactics, and more than anything... no faltering of morale and discipline.

They just need a basic modicum of military training, mostly focused on stamina, and the rest... Lucas compensates for it all.

It has limits... it depends on the user's creativity and comprehension, it isn't usable in every situation, there is a glaring and obvious weakness of depending on one person... but even then... with a large and well-equipped enough army... only with overwhelming destructive power is that he could be stopped.

man, so worried about Lucas seemingly so unconnected towards the common human, feels like some kinda turning point in the future where he has to make a big decision.

I cant think of a battle manga with a pure support character as an MC, wild how this limit forces the author to use every single character in the battles, including the "fodder".

The entire world of this story seems to be against Lucas quitting being a general
So if the situation were he is not able to quit arises
the only he still has to accomplish his dream is to becoming a Martial Bugler
a by doing that he will be enjoying the previllage of a soldier just like the father of garland

And if he lucas does end up taking the path of a martial bugler
he will become exactly the type of person that the sadistic healer girl likes
hence why she really does not want lucas to quit
