People have been saying this or that Ramus in Lucas' crew has a red flag on them, but I get the feeling that this is ironically gonna be one of those super-happy endings where everyone in the main cast survives, maybe excluding Coura. I don't have a reason, it's just a gut feeling. Maybe I just feel that it would be a neat contrasting end to the bleakness of a mediaeval war story.

I am STUNNED that Udo, AKA Mr. "One last job before retirement" has survived this fight! I'm really rooting for him now. Looking at his past attitude towards human life, I guess Udo saw his younger self in Lucas.
I like that Carl's death was a team effort. Getting killed by common soldiers after seeing his thoughts on "moving up" is especially delicious. And even Sarah's power had a role in his downfall. What a brutal death.

Spoilers: in chapter 50, after the war is over, they meet the ice cream ramus and everyone gets ice cream! The End!
Jokes aside, I am hoping as hard as I can that they will get happy endings, but tbh I still wouldn't bet on it.

Someone has remarked on this before, but in the first chapters a map of their continent is shown. It's basically Europe, yeah. The Papal States were a real thing, they existed till Italian unification in the 19th century. Gallia was mediaeval France, Germania is of course Germany, the place they're in now is Normandy and the Erin Empire is the only one for which the authors put in a little more effort to disguise the original version, but the island shape and position in the map leave no doubt that it's Great Britain.

To be honest, one of the reasons I think Lucas' crew will survive is precisely because the red flags are so blatant. It's like the author's saying, "watch me subvert all these impending death tropes". By analogy, I'm getting AoT vibes, another story in which much of the main cast survived, including the ones who spent the story talking about how they wanted a peaceful life after the war.
