I don’t care for the flashback revelations. In my opinion, they worsen the story and make future events less meaningful. Instead of D rebelling against expectations with his own will, he just says, “Well, fuck it, I’m free to do whatever,” since he lacked a real purpose, rather than defying his nature and what's expected from invaders. He essentially got permission (unshackled instead of breaking free) to stop acting like an invader instead of imposing his will over society's.

that means they share the same DNA as the most powerful ranger and could in theory have that same amount of potential

also I wonder if this is somehow related to how easily he was able to sneak up and kill one of the red clones

To be fair., D has only ever wanted to "rule the world" out of obligation. Not once has D ever gone "I have to do this because I want-" its always been "I have to do this because I'm a monster which means I have to-". He doesn't wanna be a dictator, he just wants him and his species to be seen as human beings and to have rights and respect. He never says it, but if you reread and pay attention its obvious.

There’s still the mystery of that gemstone that D claimed to be the footsoldiers’ core. Wonder what’s up with that.
Maybe that gemstone keeps them in form, preventing them from scattering into air. Might also be the reason for their common appearances as basic footsoldiers.

So, now apparently footsoldiers don't have any kind of special purpose, they just "exist" and someone decided to put them to use as mocking material.

But I still believe in my theory that in the end, all footsoldiers will combine as one and transform into Death Messiah. I believe in the power of foreshadowing!

That’s literally what I just said only you’re missing the point. He has just been unburdened of this by a third party, not his own will. This contradicts the ongoing theme of himself rebelling against the things (expectations) that bound him (depicted by the shackles from the floating island, and puppet strings in the anime opening). He was given choice, he did not grab it, when he was already on a path of his own transgressing what’s expected of footsoldiers. Now someone came and said oh you know what? Take it easy nothing’s expected from you , you’ve always been free so keep at it or don’t, up to you.

With all due respect friend, this revelation just occured; we have no idea how D will truly react to this, he's in shock. I'm certain now he's gonna rebel against the notion that he has no purpose and create one for himself.

Wild lore developments, but I'm still insanely curious about that fortress crystal seemingly making the footsoldiers (mostly) immortal
