Okay I do not believe they would have trouble hearing each other from that far apart, like, rain is not that loud, if the thunder rumbles happen then they can just talk around those bits they aren't constant, and if they can't hear from like two feet apart I really doubt they would be able to hear perfectly fine from one foot apart
