I read ahead, and it actually does improve noticeably after this incident so just trust us and wait a bit. @ethian78 is right that it's uphill from here. If I really had to quibble about what I've read so far it's that...

Personally, I think that at Lyle's age the First was kinda an outright loser compared to Lyle just being a pathetic kid, and he's only shitting on Lyle now after he had a lifetime to shape up.
Also the harem is outwardly born from a really shitty gag, but that kind of thing feels par for the course for this author.

The art is too distracting. Not because there's anything wrong with it but I keep getting flashbacks to the previous work this artist adapted where the mc turned out to be a homicidal psycho...

They're kinda annoying now but Lyle could have worse adult influences than his ancestors telling him what to do. At least the ancestors aren't deliberately trying to groom him into a savage monster.
compare this scene, both MCs are engaged 15~ year olds but one adult tells the kid to r*pe prisoners of war and sell them into slavery while the others warn their kid away from a potential prostitute because he has a fiancee

I mean, it's ok not to be OP from the get go, but at least have some redeeming qualities to be likeable.

No one wants sulky, low self-esteem deadweight cuck as a protag.

MC is already pitiful as is, I imagine the only thing worse that can happen is that some gyaru-oh adventurers trying to poach Novem for their own party.

Jokes aside, what a living hell it must be to either be a copy of a consciousness or actual soul trapped in a gem forever in dialogue with your ancestors some of which agree with you, and other may mostly disapprove of you for eternity. Like I'd imagine the first 3 or 4 in line had a sweet reunion for a bit, and as we can see they end up resenting one another given enough time and realising they spend their entire afterlife with a person they only ever mostly agree with

Never really liked the ancestors. All they've done so far is nag with very little helpful advice and drain his mana with their incessant bickering. But I tolerated it because I agree that Lyle is pathetic and needs to shape up, but this has gotten repetitive real fast and started treading into just watching Lyle be psychologically harassed by the voices in his head for every little thing, like a shitty useless(so far) Luxion.
Will this change anytime soon? Should I put the manga on hold and maybe skim the novel until the situation changes?

OI!! Luxion is very helpful and always leaves space for some retorts. He may push to win the argument, but he still lets space for Leon to put his own values in the conversation. And he doesn't drain his owner's power/mana in any way.

Yeah, thus them being a "shitty useless(so far)" version. I can totally see how criticism of the ancestors helped shape other characters of future works, most notably Luxion.

Lyle is exemplary of your average coomer in the final pages of this manga. He has Novem who (in this adaptation) is indeed perfectly beautiful (whenever the artist isn't nerfing her bust with the banana-tit treatment), but completely forgets her for this random could-be slut that looks nowhere as good as Novem does. (Red hair is wasted on her.) She goes almost completely straight up and down like the side of a telephone pole, and Lyle's still going doki doki over it.

It's good that Lyle will (I'm assuming) grow out of this kind of bestial ingratitude, but it's too bad that a lot of people have no hope in this regard. lol
