It was all damage control after the fact to save face. However people are still mad and alot of people dropped the series entirely. Author should have never done such a thing in the first place even in jest.

I really didn't understand what the author's plan was during that fiasco.

Release multiple happy ending posts showing MC and FMC being together with an "if" hashtag.
Release, out of nowhere, an ending where they don't end up together, which clashes with the premise of the manga, and did not include the aforementioned hashtag.
A lot of people got mad, and author tries damage control(?), making a post saying it's route b, but not outright denying the possibility.
Goes quiet on this for almost 2 weeks, finally says that route B will never happen.

All this, when they're taking pre-orders on the first volume. This probably affected sales quite badly.
