It's interesting how Rosemary is still acting exactly like a living doll and face. Maryrose does all the talking and quite literally pulls Rosemary around, and Rosemary just feels like she's providing her facial expressions.
Also, is Edward about to become a surprise ally? Because the last chapter makes it seem like he's starting to open his mind to humans and how messed up the system is. At bare minimum, he might actually miss Ed...
Which makes me wonder: can unification be reversed so the human takes over? We know Joseph is in control. What if some humans are still in there and can reclaim their bodies? Would some shadows willingly relinquish their bodies?
As a final note, could Shadows need the island to survive? Maryrose got sick before they could leave, could it be because being further away from the manor weakened her? Could that also be affecting other shadows? Perhaps the change in Edward's mindset is literally from the distance, and the effects vary bases on whether a Shadow is unified or not.
