I'm happy to see the rest of the debut gang yet again and ram.. haven't seen much of her since forever. In any case, it looks like the reason the gang was absent these past few chapters is because there are two factions within the children's wing. And they're all trapped while trying to plan out something to stop Anthony. I still wonder what happened to belle and the rest after that cliffhanger from last time when they saved her from Anthony. Was that after this or during? or before and we're just not seeing them yet. Anthony seem to be cloning the shadows in his factions. It seems he can't do it without them being there as seen with the lab team. Atleast some of the children in his faction found out that he's insane with all these cloning he's doing and is having second thoughts.

Can't wait for the next chapter.

Thanks for the chapter.

The soot-clones look like they could be a way out for some of Dorothy's casualties in the previous chapter.

That's a good question @Cloverdex about Belle and the rest. Anthony seems to have gone into open rebellion immediately after getting away from the Belle incident, so this doesn't seem to be happening far later than that... long enough for Kate and her friends to get besieged in the adults' wing, but not long enough for them to starve from running out of food. I'm guessing a couple days? Kate would have already begun lodging in the adults' wing around the time the Belle incident happened, I think, so Belle and the others I think are cut off on the other side of Anthony's barricade from Kate, where Anthony apparently regards them as insignificant, but surely a threat nonetheless, so they're surely in some danger from him, even if his attention has been on starting the rebellion.

Belle herself was injured in the altercation with Anthony (he burned her hand with lye), it's not a severe injury but it seems likely she would have been recovering in the infirmary with Eve/Evelyn, who we also haven't seen for a few chapters, but know Eve has broken her brainwashing due to the consequences of Anthony's brutal training on his followers (Chapter 212, Eve's Worries) - I have to imagine there'll be a chapter catching back up with the Belles and Eve/Evelyn soon.

It's been an even longer time since we've seen the characters from the Second Debutante Group have been doing, Stella/Candy, Oscar/Oskar, Laurel/Lulu, Danny/Dan, and Mattie/Matilda. We know them to be proactive and resourceful characters in their own right, and probably aren't just sitting around doing nothing while all this is going on, so I can't help thinking they've been busy, and it'll be likely be interesting to see what they've been up to.

I can't help noticing that King got a curious request for a signature on something about the train just before Anthony's rebellion distracted him, a signature he wouldn't ordinarily give. I'm reminded that Oliver/Ollie had a strange fascination for that train, and couldn't keep their hands off of it, much to King's annoyance during a tour he gave for the Star Bearers - those don't seem like throw-away details, and we still haven't heard yet what the Research Team and Star Bearers have been up to, even though we know their brainwashing is broken and they've proven more than once to have been acting independently of Kate's group on projects and plots of their own, so I'm guessing we're likely to catch up with at least the Research Team while Kate's group is meeting them about Eileen's messages.

Of the Star Bearers, it's been many chapters since we've been able to catch up with poor Barbara/Barbie and Susanna/Suzie. Barbara/Barbie seem to have been left in a very dark place - they seem to be under Anthony's control - and I think the last time we saw Susanna/Suzie, their breainwashing was broken and they remembered being John's sister. These characters have all seemed to be relatively fragile compared to Kate's Debutante group, without showing many signs of being well-suited to fighting Anthony and surviving! Sadly, they seem more like victim material than anything else....

Speaking of Eileen and her message, it's been a few chapters since we've left them, as Edward, Eileen, Gerald, and Rose/Maryrose were in a coach, making their way back to the Shadows House - that seemed like an uneasy alliance, but after rereading their chapter, I think those characters sound like they're much more likely to work together than I thought from my first reading. I can only assume that they've made it as far back to the house as the train, which should have gotten them as far as the entrance to the house where the "training" room for bonding the soot fairies to children would be located... we know that Anthony had stolen the fairies from that area and that the adults are no longer in control of that area, so I'm assuming that Edward's group is blocked from getting into the house in some way, and needs Kate's help in getting back inside. Assuming this isn't a trap and Edward isn't up to his old tricks again for some reason, these are some reasonably powerful and resourceful characters as well who should be more than capable of getting in if they aren't being directly interfered with, so what peril must they be in, that they need Kate's help? (If I didn't know that Lewis was leading the siege that was broken by Dorothy, I'd think that maybe he was interfering with Edward's group - he seems like a perfect foil for Edward, given Lewis' character arc so far. But if Lewis is the one leading the rebellion, what has Anthony been doing?)

We just saw the Disciplinary Team, for just a couple short panels, long enough for them to promise to come up with a plan of their own to help counter Anthony and make amends for some of the trouble they caused in the past. Another loose end that seems to be waiting to be tied back into the main story!

There's not a lot of mystery at the moment about what Mia/Sara have been up to - they're not on board with Kate, and seem to be sulking right now while playing by the House's rules enough to be voluntarily subjected to soot production, but they are a bit of a wildcard. It seems unlikely that Edward would have actually intended to marry her - he seemed insincere about it and intent on using her, but that was before he spent time away from Shadows House and softened a bit, and one suspects he might see things differently now - maybe not much more differently than regretting using her that way, but this doesn't bode well in any case for the sort of drama that Mia/Sara seem to be stewing in!

We've just seen just a little bit from Rum, but it's been a while since we've seen Shirley - I wonder what they've been up to, besides their cleaning routines, and retrieving Eileen's message for Kate? I think that the last time we've seen Shirley, she was preparing to spy on the third-floor adults to help answer some of Kate's open questions about what's going on there? These would be some of the biggest remaining mysteries in the story, if so, which remain to be answered before wrapping things up. So, I think we're due for at least one game-changing chapter following Shirley's adventures in the Third Floor.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few, but that's a lot of loose ends there, most of which seem likely to be tied into the main plot over the next few chapters as their activities and roles since Anthony's return get clarified.

Can't wait for the next chapter.
Ch 217 + 223/Belle's stalking of Anthony happened before Ch 218 - 222, when Kate and the Star Bearers visited the Great Grandfather's Wing and reported Lewis, who then subsequently escaped to Anthony and thus kicked off hostilities between the two wings.

Ever since... without Kate's leadership, her allies have apparently chose to maintain course and proceed with breaking the brainwashing in the Children's Wing. But anything further than that seems to be beyond them, least of all outright stopping Anthony.

After all, Anthony has effectively declared rebellion to the Adults, marking a point of no return. Stopping Anthony at that point could only do so much, because the Adults might still kill them anyway, with the march in Ch 230 hardening the lines of war. On the contrary, one way or another all the children across factional lines have a mind to revolt against the Adults, hence why even the Research Team in this chapter is consciously complying with arming for war. I'd go so far as to assess that Anthony knew this, hence why he didn't bother to pointlessly punish those who defied him over Belle.

And that's before we consider the prowess of Kate's allies: the majority have mindsets for scheming, deduction and political manoeuvres, but military thinking is a whole other beast that most of them aren't ready stomach. This is a vital element whether it's fending off Anthony or the Adults, and aside from Candy none of them are prepared for this.

Strategically speaking, if I were Kate my preference in the face of this decisive battle is for the Adults to be overthrown while ensuring as many children will survive as possible. As such, I would prefer to deal with Anthony after the Adults are defeated.

My personal preference would be that in these hours leading up to the outbreak of war, Kate's allies across the Children's Wing can rally together and get their own preparations in place to come to Kate's aid. Although, if I were Anthony and I see them gathered so, I would throw them to the frontlines and fight the Adults at some point so that I won't have to watch my back.

Such fluid dynamics of shifting "allegiances" and truces, developments that're so very Shadows House...
