If I remember correctly, we can see that Sara and Mia were behind Edward. I think she's going to fight one of the kids, that's the only way the numbers add up given the fact that there are 4 star bearers and 5 debutants.

Can't they? Edward has sound power with his soot. Further there are simple tricks for this, like just throwing one's voice, that can still be effective. The chapter makes a specific point here of reminding us as readers that previously there was a door where there are now stairs and it was open below. That's been covered this time, but has it been filled? An adult could be directly underneath without them knowing.

Though again it could certainly be Kate, and that Edward somehow forced her into it... or thought he did. But we probably shouldn't take much we see in this entirely as obvious at first glance is all.

1- Edward don't have that much range
2- Kate not is the only one star bearer, If you see the map you will notice that the other 3 are there waiting for the rest of the debut.
3- If they are all clones it would imply that Edward can channel several sounds at the same time at absurd distances, which I doubt.
4- The clone is product of Kate's soot power, the power of Kate is bend her hair and shape it, her clone oly for her, and only can exist close to her.
5- The ladder is just another way to show that the rules have changed.

Not necessarily, the star bearers guard the major emblems and Matilda already has one, so the 4 are enough

Snorts softly. So Edwards Big Plan is to both tie kate and her crew up, and put her at odds with the new kids in a direct way. And of course if Kate (and the others) throw the match, they get in trouble.

Dire seeming but. I trust the author of Kuro to resolve things satisfyingly, at this point. It's fun to trust an author. Makes it more fun if they decide to go for my back.
