No way she's gonna respond in kind immediately. Hell no. Pretty sure he didn't spill the entire flashback, so he has no resume of his utter devotion. After all, becoming a world-class pastry/cake chef just so a girl you haven't seen in over a decade will say yes at the altar is some pretty wild devotion. It's actually a little frightening? Especially when you combine it with the not having kept in touch?

@Tamerlane I think the protagonists in these stories always have some sort of protection. If it's an adventure story they got plot armor to prevent death, in a romance they have the equivalent of mental tin foil hats to prevent those love hints from reaching their brain. 😜

As a 29 year old woman, I would feel sooooooo weird about dating a 23 year old. Also, being single at 29 ain't so bad or lonely.

As much as I want to be like that, I know a 24 year old who wants me to date him and I can't for several reasons, one of the biggest is that people are still going through a fuck ton of development throughout their 20s (psychologists even say that adolescence goes through your mid-20s these days). I think that there is a power difference between myself and the 24 year old. It's also a lot to sign up for for being someone who will be extremely influential on who they develop into during that time, especially as being 30 vs 24, I've already been through it.
It also really freaks me out to think that I was 18 and they were 12.
I also don't date up more than a few years either, so at least one can't say I'm a hypocrite about it..
