@a27wolf He was only a teen during the attack. Eric had many years after and even 16 extra after being reborn to at least question if the monster stampede was manipulated. He should have at least kept his guard up if, like in ch8 he thought they might be controlled. Instead they basically celebrated and then otou-san got wrecked because he was too carefree.

Edit: Touched up ch13. IMO Eric is just too naive. He tried to solo every monsters without setting a single trap. He had not a single doubt about the stampede after future knowledge on demon stuff and ~25+ years of experience. Meanwhile Tina's over here figuring everything out in like 25 seconds with no previous life knowledge at all. End note: guess eric's name is now Eirc!

I mean from the look of his flashbacks, he kinda left during the stampede. He had no way of knowing that the stampede was directly caused due to a demon. also if you haven't noticed already, Eric is kinda a doofus. he probably didn't connect the 2 together. Even if he did, I doubt he would believe that the demon would get directly involved.

hi,
thank for this translation. I'm for Tina-nee. Is the shortest and more or less everybody know the meaning.

I actually think Eric's actions are reasonable, if a bit over confident. People often underestimate how easy it is to not think about something when you are confident you already know the answer. He knew it was a stampede that destroyed the village, and he likely would only hear that the big city fell and not precisely what direction it was invaded from. Him deciding to fight the entire stampede alone was exceptionally dumb though, he could have literally just grabbed his dad when he walked over there and it would be the same situation. The wall is going to tell everybody you knew something was coming anyway. I just chalk that one up to extreme confidence though because it looks like he could have barely won alone if it was just a horde, and the wall would have been a good way to direct a mindless horde. It just turned out they weren't quite mindless.

I think he might not know about the demon manipulating the monsters in the forests and when he is older he doesn't dig in too deep on the attack. About the monsters are acting weird and everyone knows, I think it because Eric's action that makes the villager aware of it.

Not sure how the TL thinks that Eric not knowing the original attack was a plothole. He was only 16 at the time of the original attack. He didn't have the benefit of hindsight of being reincarnated.

If Eric was supposed to have understood and knew something of that magnitude was coming, then shouldn't the adults in charge of security have known as well? Trying to push the responsibility of this onto an unknowing 16 year old seems pretty weak at best.

author didn't make an oopsie, whoever commented that is just a retard that's confusing more dumb dumbs in the comments and giving birth to new retards.

eric has memories of the village being jumped by beasts. that's all. he doesn't even know about the demon because the demon didn't exist in his memories.

in "the future" the demon was hiding in the forest, controlling the beasts. and "future eric" had/has no knowledge of demons being able to control beasts etc.

why did he not figure out a demon attacked his village? probably cause the capital/city/country hasn't even been attacked by the demon who attacked his village.

referring to page 19.

HE DID NOT SAY HE FOUGHT DEMONS BEFORE. he only knows demons exist and they have the ability to control beasts because irene is a demon.

BEGONIA DID NOT GET ATTACKED. he wouldn't even be a soldier if begonia got attacked by the demon who destroyed his village. what was the demon doing? idk, prob building up military might in eric's village in preparation to destroy begonia.

HE'S NOT A SEASONED SOLDIER. he was only able to take on approx 100+ men due to the adrenaline rush in that specific moment. he died to humans, not demons. why was he attacked by them? no clue, prob cus he was dating irene.

as far as we know from the first chapter, he had ZERO prior training in fighting/magic until AFTER his village got jumped. maybe he did learn a bit from hunting with his father but that's highly unprobable because current Selene is against reincarnated Eric going on hunts even though he's strong, there's no way past Selene would let Eric go on a hunt or let Dian take Eric on one.

so around the age of 16 was when he started "training". he died around 20 something which only gives him 5-10 years of training. 5-10 years isn't enough to be called "seasoned" you would just be considered slightly above/above average. maybe a squad leader.

MC just fled last time he got attacked by a stampede so he doesn't know jack shit except that there's a huge stampede
There wasn't simply any time to discover the mastermind behind it+the mastermind only showed up when the stampede is almost over meaning that it is nigh impossible to even get killed by him before anything
He probably knew nothing about Begonia since for those few years he's probably been recuperating from falling off cliff

If Begonia was crushed before he learned enough to join the fight then the details might have been lost in the chaos of the war. Otherwise Plot hole, big plot hole.

...Why is it a plothole? Am I missing something?

Last time, monsters sacked the village and demon never showed himself, "because it's a bother", as the man said. And crucially, monster stampedes seem to be a normal-ish thing?—And their behaviour wouldn't have been as blatantly weird then because they didn't have a wall to charge straight at unnaturally / stand around calmly when they can't pass / etc. From the young boy's non-critical eyes it presumably would just have been "monsters and chaos everywhere".

And him not hearing about any demon military maneuvers through his village afterwards seems well within the realm of possibility, assuming that happened. It's quite possible no-one outside of their immediate neighbors even knew where his podunk village even used to be.

Or it could be known and assumed to be a coincidence. If your family gets eaten by an angry tiger in a place where tigers live, and then you hear later your house was taken over by a circus, you don't necessarily assume that the circus sicced the tiger on your family (even if they had one).

Like, lack of critical thinking on his part, maybe, but plausibly not as dumb as it looks to us who only have the critical pieces of information in front of us right now. And being not-booksmart in this regard, uh, reasonably fits his character so far. (Not saying it won't be a plot-hole later, but doesn't seem like one to me yet).

Yah I know. Eric's not that bright in the foresight & even his hindsight isn't 20/20. That's why his decision to secretly shoulder everything by himself was BS & pure suicidal & the stupidest ever.

Author didn't do an oopsie. The translators/dumb comments are just rather retarded.
