Despite being a compellingly straightforward sequel, this series feels so flaccid. I don’t know why.

the heads look kinda bloaty compared to the original. also them now taking on masters 2v1 is kinda ridiculous - especially when they hype them up in the very same chapter and then the so-called "master" doesn't recognize he's getting hit several times and avoids at least some of the hits??

that said, the author took off at least one time due to health reasons less than 20 chapters into the serialization. so maybe he's just speedrunning things to make them masters and give the manga a proper conclusion and not the bs ending we got over a decade ago.

To be fair, Kenichi outright said that this guy wasn't anywhere as strong as Akisame. And the original manga already established that even among masters there are tiers among them and a low/mid master can be defeated by a group of disciple/expert class fighters.

Pretty sure if Kenichi as he is now tried to 2v1 a high-level master like say, Ogata, the results would be the same as last time(with at most Ogata maybe having to put in a miniscule amount more effort since Kenichi is stronger than he was that time, but still not at the level to make top-level masters like his Ryouzanpokou masters or the One Shadow masters sweat)

this was obviously factoring in the different master ranks lol
the point is that it's not a dozen vs 1 like against fortuna. and while the guy here is probably just a "normal" master, that's still way better than the "trash master" rank fortuna held. and i doubt their abilities increased that much to bridge this gap - especially when there's only two of them. that said, the author can obviously do whatever. just that it feels incredibly cheap when in other instances just days or weeks before (in in-universe time of course) ANY master showed superhuman feats neither of them could have comprehended.

I feel like this fists. Kenichi at the end, when he's fully locked in is comparable to someone who's about to reach master class. Tanimoto is also shown to be about his equal. This guy might not even be fully defeated but I can buy them getting in a hit that gives them enough time to open the door.

It was three "loosely penetrating" hits.

Tanimoto was 2-0 (now 3-0) in group master fights (each instance dealing decisive damage with Kyōsa/Grim Cross), and as stated, they're especially familiar with masters, so not exactly a surprising result.

Admittedly, I do have an issue or two with how the arc played out, with Tanimoto often feeling less like himself and more a recap device in this arc. His penultimate attack got an upgrade from damaging average master-class to defeating them, at least.

I liked the fight, definitely felt the hype with Kenichi having crazy defense and chi-control. Even in the previous manga, Tanimoto, Lugh, and Berserker soundly beat a lower master so I think it's perfectly fine for an expert Ken and Hermit to beat the breaks off this guy even if it makes Ken pass out. However, def not feeling the art style specifically with the faces so far. Heres hoping the art style shifts soon like it did in the OG and other mangas early chapters.
