Honestly I am surprised it got a second life. It got axed mainly because story got stale and fanservice was getting ridiculous.
Jeeze you really know nothing about this series huh?
Kenichi was literally one of the most popular shonen at the time of its publication, the only reason it ended was because the dipshits who owned the magazine wanted Matsuena to hurry up and finish it and then start a new series for their 50th anniversary despite Matsuena saying he wanted another 2 years to wrap it up he gave in and finished the manga in less than a year to start "Tokiwa Kitareri" which is basically just an inferior re-skinned Kenichi The Mightiest Desciple which is probably why it only lasted 2 years before getting canceled.
Kenichi was one of their biggest hits, it was not axed for being stale or for fanservice, it was literally popular BECAUSE it had great writing and fan service lmao.
Although the writing does take a bit of a hit at the end from Matsuena rushing the last few chapters it was still enjoyable and better than a lot of other shonen manga endings, at least it was good enought that we're getting a sequel in 2026.
