ah, knew it had to be a supernatural thing but wonder if the son is also a monster despite him acting more or less normal

I thought the same, I mean, it's pretty easy for the police/health agency to check on the extremely debilitated woman with a bunch of flies around and sewed up eyes, then get everybody arrested... It's not like they can hide anything
