Oh yeah, Comick encountered one (1) problem and immediately died so now this has to be uploaded here again. I though I had read these chapters already...

What? Oh shit you right, it's gone! Did they change the site or something?

Nope, they are gone for good most likely legal reasons. They never really said exactly why though lol.
They did: Kakao Webtoon knocked on their door because the owner... didn't realize that rights-holders would come after him????? They cut off Cloudflare and told him to kill the site, so he did. He had no Plan B or any mitigating feature in place because he thought the site was too new for them to care? Fucking brain genius and a good portion of the scanlation community thought that this dude was the new way forward.

I maintain that the online anime and manga community is one of the dumbest out there. People rushed over to Comick because they saw that Dex rolled over for rights-holders and thought "well, these guys will tell them where to shove it!" and the moment they encountered a similar issue they killed themselves instead of following the well-trodden path. What the fuck do you people think is gonna happen when you try to centralize something? Of course they're gonna strike the center. Nobody is gonna just thumb their nose at copyright claims unless they're owned by Russians and hosted in Russia, like StreamEast.

I can't lie the miasma of death comments all over were exuding about mangadex post the nuking was a bit much. I don't know who in the space isn't going to have to eventually comply with DMCA especially if they have manhwa, Korea is honestly the biggest threat to any online site. I think a just manga site not reupping official scans could go for a long while, longer than anything with manhwa anyway.

I expect every site to get Kakao or someone else knocking within months of them getting popular. Anyone charging for things way faster. The hope of a big centralising manga/manhwa site is likely not gonna go far, other than the money chasing aggregators because they tend to be out of range of legal action, other than like you said something Russian.

Ah well, I'll enjoy what we have until I no longer can. I think losing people bringing newer series and untranslated gems to light will be the greatest loss if Korea gets their way.

Idk if the returning series to MangaDex might motivate another nuke in the future, but I'm comfortably still having it as my main site. Time to look for a new secondary one just in case though.
