Gai is apparently a shoujo manga high school girl. This is the trope where the girl pretends for the sake of her friendship that she doesn't like the guy the other girl is into. Argh.

nah Gai has genuinely lost his feelings for Shio, hes moved on lmao, this does actually kind of leave Ran and Shio in shitty positions given that they neither of them think that he has. In the first place the only reason he tried to date Shio was to so they could both escape brother's shadow, but now he's come to terms with his brother's personality and he's reconciled with his parent's plan for him. He's overcome his need to define himself in terms of that relationship, whereas Shio's developed weird hangups over the both of them, and Ran is just straightforwardly in love with them. He's kind of fucked things up with his halfassed feelings way more than if he'd never entered the fray and tried to date his brother's ex-wife so that he could resolve his inferiority complex
