It seems like they actually meet each other ofor a coincidence.
I hate this kind of bullshit in manga, when everything goes badly for the MC just so to push the story in that direction, same as when the yakuza noticed him at work.
It makes the sacrifice of his tortured comrade feel wasted, as they got to him by chance instead of tracking and hunting.
