A short explanation is that a good way to classify certain three dimensional shapes is by the number of holes they have. Since the number of holes doesn't change if you change the shape in certain ways.

So all the shapes that sensei has made are in some sense the same since they each have one hole in them.

I'm omitting a lot of detail (like, practically all of it) here, if you want to know more, look up the classification of compact closed surfaces.

The little bar thing she ate on page 11 looked like the same rations Yuu and Chii found in the plane in Girls' Last Tour. Idk if it's actually a reference but there's been plenty of other references to the author's previous work in this so ya know.

I was just reading a book about hunter-gatherer societies the other day, this was nice.

I will never not love this artstyle btw.

@Serenata has homed-in on an important point. Topologically speaking, the hole-digging club has not yet created a hole. However, by making a u-turn, to create a tunnel from one part of the school grounds to another, they can do just that. There is no need to tunnel straight down.

When we had the panels with the one-hole shaped objects and the sensei digging the hole it felt ridiculously heavy for some reason.

Like I don't get why, but I felt despair emaning from sensei. Like she felt her existence hollow and that's why she's obsessed with holes.

And then the cherry in top of the cake:

A shot from the sky, looking down on a tiny sensei compared to the gigantic whole in the backyard and the even bigger donuts.

This no-where near enough.

What are you trying to tell us, Tsukumizu? Why do i feel like I'm watching Haibane Renmei all over again?

The hole was a donut.
I'm a donut.
You're a donut.
Everything is donuts.

i love tsukumizu's art style, like look at the first page, it looks so messy and simple, yet every detail is recognizable, its a very effective style

also, i feel this manga is way too deep for me, like this hole they are making, and its gonna get weirder the deeper they go
