Yeah, this is woefully dire! For a character who saw himself as the protagonist in his final year of junior high to be so utterly crushed by the existence of a dumb, self-absorbed, pretty boy means this MC has chunibyo levels of self-delusion. He was as unrequiting with the feelings of the three girls as this current pretty boy and only held on to them as long as he did because of historical connections.
