What IS "Genghis Khan" cooking in Japan? In other series it gets casually passed off as a kind of yakiniku kind of restaurant, where the meat gets cooked over a mesh grill and an open flame. In other series, it's another way of referencing Korean BBQ restaurants, where the grill is a metal plate with "vents" to drain off the excess fat, heated over a gas flame. In that Hokkaido Gyaru series, it's something else entirely, and here the translators claim it's Mongolian BBQ!!

5 years late reply. This chapter doesn't talk about "Genghis Kahn cooking", they talk about mongolian BBQ with bullshit backstory about mongolian tradition.

However there's one japanese dish that's called Genghis kahn (Jingisukan) refers to grilled MUTTON dish invented in Hokkaido. The grill is a lot similar to your typical Korean BBQ restaurant and in turn it's kinda similar to Yakiniku. Compared to Korean BBQ, the grill usually a bit more convex.

Mongolian BBQ (in this chapter) is different. It's taiwanese style of cooking with large flat iron. It's a lot more similar to Teppanyaki.

You misunderstood those two.
