Note: A character in this chapter is a Buddhist monk. The symbol on his clothes in a manji. It's unrelated to another symbol which is the mirror image of a manji. "Namu Amida" is the beginning of a common Buddhist chant. In Japanese media it's used as ambiguous Buddhist chanting, it has no actual meaning. It sometimes appears as "Namu Amida Butsu" or just "Namu" repeated.

I remember that bit of context from a rerun of a 70s live action series known as Kolchak the night stalker.
