Mekia's goal was to gauge Olivia's strength/power. The phrase they used during the meeting was "to investigate and test." Therefore, they sent only one general. Logically, killing Olivia (IF successful) would actually harm Mekia itself. They needed Farnest Kingdom to erode the Empire's power. If Farnest lost Olivia, the Empire would regain the upper hand. But after they discovered Olivia could use magic, they wanted to "steal" her from Farnest, and turning her to Mekia's side.

They are quite arrogant one thing I've been waiting for from the time we'd see if Olivia has magic. We know reaper taught her the true essence of magic which is many times more powerful, we saw that with Olivia accident at start of series, she hasn't used it since but could this be the chance.

It certainly will be a very painful experience also the way they use magic from what I remember is fake, weakened version created by humans who forgot the old way, reaper taught Olivia true way, but she was accident prone with it, so I'm hoping we still get to see true magic from her
