The funny thing I was sure that we already have a pseudo ottoman turks in the dwarfs with their craftmanship and harems but now we have pseudo Arabs in a Constantinople in the desert with a probably Lawrence of Arabia from Dhalla. The author sure likes to mix things up

Well, I understand that. The thing is, Constantinople was clever trap, being a safe harbour in very narrow strait, so the ships has to pass here. Plus, since it was the only land route from Europe to Asia, again people has to pass through here.

If the author wanted Baruara to be pseudo Constantinople, he is obviously doing it wrong. Moreover, with the settled/nomad dichotomy, he should do something more akin Palmyra, Samarkand and/or cities of Tarim basin. In fact, given the story here, Palmyra would be ideal.

@lastKANAshimi I never thought that personally, they live on a mountain in the cold. And the women DO fight/are hearty despite the vales. I see the Dwarves more like Scandinavian, especially 17th century Sweden which were also at the forefront of modernization for the time, just with a blend of viking culture which Dwarves are inspired from.

That is a good point, they did have the jade halls which could represent the Norns in Norse Mythology. I saw it as a reference to the Sultanate of Women for the ottoman empire. I also thought all the talk about dwarves and their crafts and guns was a reference to the Ottoman gunpowder empire. Also all the embroidery felt vaguely eastern

Well the author does like to mix things together, so maybe we have Turko-Scandi dwarves, anglo elves, Arabic-Byzantine beastman and something Dhalla

@lastKANAshimi You could be partly right in that one aspect although the Norn influence seemed clear given the Jade Hall were weaving and cutting threads during their discussion. But I always thought overrall it more Germanic-Russo-Scandanavian the first time, not only because of the wintery mountain environment but also their clear industrialism which the Ottomans never pulled off on their own or the creation and use of the experimental Armoured Train, that and given their reputation of being difficult to invade. Dhalla is clearly the French, they have a revolutionary republic if I'm not mistaken and are far more aggressive colonialist, not to mention the historic rivalry with Albion 😉

I think there's a continuity error here. This chapter references Sakura's and Doronea's sexy time in CH 35. That same time frame in CH 36, Kai and Noel are attacked by a gravefang and eventually get saved by Gil. BUT, at the moment in this current chapter, Gil is in Sinchar with Nia. How is Gil able to save Kai if he's in another nation? I think the author just wanted to make a funny reference as removing that joke and establishing that Gil left after that event fixes it. But he should be careful about accidently screwing up the timeline.

Dhalla being french makes a lot of sense actually now that I think about given their rivalry between the clearly anglo Albion. I do think though that the dwarfs here was more represented as like early tech race, meaning that they themselves are not in the industrial age and more like individualistic crafting rather then like mass produced industrialism, so I thought that fit the ottoman theme, being the early tech adopters but is beginning to fall behind. Their liking of big gun unwieldy guns on the train also reminded me of the Dardanelles Gun

@lastKANAshimi Armoured War trains were made most famous by Russia as I recall though, and used to great effect even against German tanks during WW2. And my own impression was that they're skilled indivdual craftsman but also an industralist society and organization in general since the impression wasn't that they were falling behind but at the forefront of technology at the time sans isekai knowledge transfers, their metal working talent to me speak of Norse/Cermanic skill sets versus Ottoman luxury goods (which tsarist Russia was also famous for with its artisans). The Dardanelles were also based on a design by a Hungarian/Translvayanian artisans design used during the siege of Constantinople I'd also point out. The Train itself reminded me more of the third reich's giant railway gun that was used on Paris during the early stages of WW2 :p

@KrimzonHawka You are right they do have more german-scandi influence then turks. I do then look forward to see whether this new Constantinople is more turkic or more arabic inspired. Or neither and we go with OG byzantine.
