To me I think it's obvious that Kai said no to being king for now. But I think there's absolutely no way that Sheria isn't gonna get Kai to put a bun in her oven, I think the lack of seeing any 'replacement' for Kai is evidence enough of that.

I blame the wording on the translation, makes it seem like she'll have an heir with one of her kin but her heart is Kai's.

That's just a mistranslated bit, in the Japanese raw she says
世継ぎを作れと先祖の霊たちに言われたんだけど…
その相手は貴方しかないから

私と一緒にこの島の王様になってなんて絶対言わない
でも　私の子供の父親になるのは
カイ　貴方しかない　そう決めたから

which roughly translates to:
The spirits of my ancestors are telling me to create an heir... my partner (for that) would only be you
I won't ask you to join me and become the king of this island, but the one who will be the father of my child is you Kai, only you, that's what (I) decided


So yeah, not sure why those two pages got translated that way though.
Oh, and remember the actual Grey Enfield? He's half-elf. Interbreeding is entirely plausible.

In the raws it was 教母様 (kyoubo-sama) which if I'm remembering my poor Chinese correctly, 教母 (jiao mu) means godmother, not sure how it would be in the context in Japanese, but a less cringe worthy translation would probably be "matriarch"
