I wouldn't say he was a gourmet, just a rich kid who ate it because that's what rich people should do.

Then she taught him the flavors to be found in "simple" food (as in inexpensive but tasty) and finally he found love in her stories (and in parallell in her as well).

Agreed on the recipe thing though - like the boss said, it's things anyone should be able to do at home (so she mostly got it to get out of the house, and rich kid just to see what the girl that caught his eye was getting).

..I do suspect Mayumi-chans closing statements should be read somewhat like "I was the one who started all this 'eat simple canned dishes at the izakaya' dealie, so why do I not get a rich guy glomping on to me".
