I believe that there is a specific reason on why he has the title of "Corpse King", for the basic understanding we have been given on the first chapters I believe that his followers are his dead classmates, brought back to life by the MC after they find their ends during the quest of killing the Demon Lords, I also believe they are new kind of beings, like the wolf girl, while retaining the general aesthetic of their previous life, plus, probably, some of their past behavioral characteristic. TL;DR they are undead zombies. This would explain why they are still around.

For the matters of why they let the company name go to ruin is quite simple and quite an old trope as well, they scattered into groups, where some of the parts got greedy and try to become or do everything they couldn't while under the previous management.

The LN have the answer. The life there will depend of the mana pool of the person, normal humans 80 years but there are humans with >300 years and most part of his followers aren't humans(demon/angel, beastkin, dragon...).

So far everything about this series just doesn't interest me tbh since something like mana = lifespam not getting mentioned is an eyebrow raiser, and the reveal is kinda anti-climatic for me since I feel like I can predict the type of loyalty MC's lackeys are and I don't like it
