I feel like the translator's note is a bit unfair because Oshio's situation is Oshio's situation, not someone else's situation. His target of interest was Salt-God, not any normal human. At the best of times, it was difficult to figure out what she really meant, so why exactly was this time different? Oshio accepted surprisingly easily the rejection, which was actually hanging up. Yet back school, he was trying to interpret in a positive manner Satou's blunt answers. It didn't visit his mind that he wasn't even rejected, it was Satou being the usual Salt-God Satou. If you are trying to date someone with Terminator level of understanding of social interactions, grow a thick skin.

So, sure, you can say that be a man and don't dwell on it, and especially don't accept stupid morsels afterwards. But that hasn't actually got anything to do with Oshio's situation.

i haven't seen the social media aspect explored that much in rom mangas, it usually goes like, the female char being stalked or cyberbullying and other stuff. So its kinda fresh to see the whole 'insta' thing going on. but still, making a huge deal just cause he took away her smartphone lol.

Eh, it's quite a bit more than that. At this point, taking away her smartphone indefinitely (remember, he said he thinks they let her have one too early), and not even as a punishment, is crippling in many ways. It's not just her not being able to use Instagram and chat with friends. You are largely required to have a phone to engage with society effectively.
When I was a kid, a smartphone wasn't really something we needed, I really only used my phone if I had to. I didn't even have internet at home until I was like 12. It ain't that way anymore. Those are tools that people expect you to have.
