I wonder if the body of the Grand Librarian has to be effectively hijacked from someone to install all of this knowlege into? Right now the Emperor's decision to restrict access to the Library seems inane, but I would understand it if the current Grand Librarian ends up being someone who used to be close to the Emperor, like one of his sons. That would explain to me why he seemed so enraged during his last inspection - he hates seeing someone he knew as a human being reduced to a crippled living encyclopedia.

Ohhh I didn’t even think about this! Since the Librarian is stated to be of the royal bloodline, this could very well be!

I’ve been wondering for a while if rather it’s someone who COULD have become a rival in the royal succession to him. we know very little about what’s going on in the palace…but what we do know is that the wise emperor died suddenly, and his crown prince who is uninterested in learning has taken the throne. what if the current “Chief Librarian” was a younger prince or potential successor that might have become the emperor’s chosen successor in a year or two?

I’m not sure why they would choose to make him Chief Librarian instead of simply disappearing him, but it’s obvious that just seeing his face is enough to be a death sentence. so I think there’s a secret there that could shake the foundations of the current administration if it was found out.

we also still don’t know why Kibi’s village was destroyed, or how that connects to the change in emperors.
it’s possible that Kibi had a dream with the “real” voice of the Chief Librarian before she heard it in real life because of their yin-yang connection, but it’s also possible she met him once when she was much younger and had forgotten about it (since we know now that her hometown is plot-important).
