On P26, it says that there's only a one-year difference between the bald girl and the protagonist, and the latter mentions having loved the bald girl's manga since she was herself a child, so...Art is carrying this chapter. Interesting panel composition, dedication to line work instead of tone, great character designs, women's fashion to the max. If there's a complaint, it's that the linework is of uniform weight.
As to the plot? Not much to go on yet. I get the feeling that the side characters will all get development, and their relationships will get fleshed out. The sensei is a child author, correct? That feels under-addressed. But I love the MC's design and her opening conflict that I'm really invested in where it goes!
The mangaka is probably a girl, judging by her appearance and people’s reactions to her haircutIs the mangaka a girl or a boy?
Could also be Tuuro-sensei has a medical condition that results in stunted growth, like the aptly-named Growth Hormonal Deficiency Syndrome. On P26, it says that there's only a one-year difference between the bald girl and the protagonist, and the latter mentions having loved the bald girl's manga since she was herself a child, so...
I was also confused when I translated the chapter, but I don't think I made a mistake here. Plus, they exchanged mails for ~4 years, which means she should at least be 15-16 now, considering she started at 11-12 years old, but she looks like she's 10 at most? She's an adult.
Not ruling that out yet, tbh. This "if not kid, why kid shaped" is such a checkhov's gun inclusion that I expect it to lead to something. There aren't many clues one chapter in. Cancer is a guess. Growth-hormonal deficiency is another. Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Fragile bone disease), they were confined to a hospital and drew manga to pass the time? Who knows!Well, at least its not because she has cancer.
The reason to assume that the mangaka have cancer is because have the shaved head and they literally said that they shaved it because it was distracting from the manga writing. Not ruling that out yet, tbh. You'd might be surprised, but not everyone is comfortable with sharing their medical condition in public or on a first meeting; especially if it's terminal. The reason to assume that the mangaka have cancer is because have the shaved head and they literally said that they shaved it because it was distracting from the manga writing.
If she really has cancer, the title being "It's Pretty Much the Same as When You Bite Your Tongue." would be some dark humour. Not ruling that out yet, tbh.
