Rant time!
Chapter 4 is my least favourite chapter of the whole series. I am disappointed about the ending of the chapter. They had a great chance to grow closer, with Shizuko coming to trust Shuri more (since she did after all bring this trouble upon herself by not trusting him). And then Shuri had to ruin it by sexually assaulting her!
I expect that kind of rapey shit from a shoujo "bad boy" like Char from "Love Devil". I had expected better of Shuri.
I am cutting Shuri some slack because he is, after all, 1000 years old and was raised with decidedly... shall we say pre-modern ideas of consent and "wifely duties". And I trust that he would not actually rape her. He would stop once he realized she wasn't into it. But he could definitely have kissed and groped her, which constitutes serious sexual assault.
Bad Shuri!
Moreover, page 28 where the crowd admonishes Shizuko for not loving Shuri enough was an opportunity for her to reflect on how good he (usually) is to her. Alas, it falls on deaf ears because it turns out she is unconscious throughout the whole ordeal.
But there are moments of sweetness from Shizuko if you look closely. On page 35 she goes "I am not ready", suggesting that she DOES want to kiss Shuri when she is ready for it. And on page 36 we see Shizuko's kind nature: Even right after Shuri sexually assaults her, her first concern for his safety. Shizuko is good. <3
I hope no one counts it as a spoiler when I say that in my opinion the series gets better from here on.
