The web novel mixes up oxygen and carbon dioxide in this scene too (chapter 61 in WN).
You're a plant, shouldn't you need carbon dioxide?

Spot on explanation. If it weren't a fantasy setting she'd definitely be a net consumer of oxygen based on her low surface area to volume ratio for photosynthesis and the fact that she's pretty mobile. Also to everyone talking about oxygen and carbon dioxide being mixed up. Even though they are a net producer plants do in fact need oxygen the same way animals do. They use carbon dioxide to produce sugar, but to get chemical energy from that sugar they use oxygen the same as animals. Plants in the dark consume oxygen because they aren't producing any, and release carbon dioxide do to not having a use for it in the dark. Besides that, if they were to spend more energy than they produce they would have to use oxygen for that as well. The mc probably isn't a net consumer of oxygen, but she clearly uses more energy than a normal plant.
thank you for the translations!🤗Hey look, another chapter!
I swear, if I have to make another end page...

yup n2 in the air really stable making it useless for anything at all. those bacteria in the plant root is using magic turn it into something usable.1. Plants need fixed nitrogen in the soil. Nitrogen in the air means very little to them.
2. She reincarnated from earth, so even if she doesn't identify with that life anymore she should still know that.
Also, one of the few tidbits we've gotten about her first life was that she was into plants.1. Plants need fixed nitrogen in the soil. Nitrogen in the air means very little to them.

Her upper body is a human's so presumably she has human lungs as well as how plants breathe. The web novel mixes up oxygen and carbon dioxide in this scene too (chapter 61 in WN).
If they communicate properly, they stop being useless, and then their lesbian cred is in jeopardy. We're under romcom rules now.Why is she not talking things out properly with the witch?
"don't eat my nectar [but I won't mention the why]" "stingy! I'm gonna anyway!" etc.
A temporary solution at best. Woman cannot live on fruit alone. Even throwing in some cucumber and eggplant won't suffice. Also, feels like feeding the witch should be easy enough. Since she can kill any of those monsters that witch "saved" her from this chapter (using her poisons). And if she finds a fruit, she should be able to grow fruits for her.
Iris seems to have difficulty speaking in general - if you pay attention to which lines are actually being spoken and which ones are just her own internal thoughts, the former are limited to very short, simple statements, and even those are broken up into multiple speech bubbles in a way that suggests that they're coming out in a halting manner ("What a big... pond!" "I can use... this water!") which suggests that it takes a lot of effort to put them together and actually speak them. It seems like regressing back to a little baby toddler body has severely impacted her ability to properly communicate with others. Why is she not talking things out properly with the witch?

I was just about to say this, but also, even if she was a botanist and should "know better", it's not unreasonable that you wouldn't be thinking too hard about which gasses your biology specifically needs when you're fucking drowning and being attacked by crocodiles. The fact that she's even thinking about "oxygen" in a situation like this and not just "air" already makes her kind of a nerd. Also to everyone talking about oxygen and carbon dioxide being mixed up. She's had trouble speaking ever since she became an alraune. She ate that one plant that let her vocalize, but mimicking human speech with any degree of accuracy is still quite difficult for her.Iris seems to have difficulty speaking in general - if you pay attention to which lines are actually being spoken and which ones are just her own internal thoughts, the former are limited to very short, simple statements, and even those are broken up into multiple speech bubbles in a way that suggests that they're coming out in a halting manner ("What a big... pond!" My point is that she can vocalize. So even if it takes some effort and is split into multiple bubbles, then that is exactly what she can do. Or, yknow, she could simply use a single word that explains everything even standalone: "addictive narcotics"She's had trouble speaking ever since she became an alraune. She can simply consume a nitrogen-fixing plant, like clover. Problem solved.1. Plants need fixed nitrogen in the soil. Nitrogen in the air means very little to them.
