This is the kind of problem you get when you just slap two parallel timelines together like this, in this case the web novel and magazine versions of the story, it becomes disjointed and confusing because the story is mostly the same but for a few key points, like whether these two knew each other earlier or later, if Mizushima and Hiyama are actually friends or not and one massive point is Kimuras friend, I forget which but she's only present in one timeline so here in this collection of chapters from both timelines she's going to seem very random in existence where she is very present in a chapter or two but then ceases to exist and then suddenly exists again.
It would have probably been better for the story if instead of just throwing the chapters together in some random order they made a more concise story based on the other two releases as a sort of story board, the story from one and comedy of the other concisely and carefully morphed together into one story more powerful combined than the two individually.
*I'm just using the term 'time line' as a generic catch all since I don't remember the exact differences between the two releases.
