Up until now yeah, dude was just following the first person he meets in this world without questioning the inconsistencies on what she says and what he sees, not really simping, just being an gullible idiot, but after all that the princess talked this chapter dude still is on her side, and went on a journey to get stronger so she don't pick a new hero over him, I can't say he is just being gullible at this point.

From what I remember the hero isn't from Japan, he is from another fantasy world, but yeah, there is something wrong with that dude if he listen all that and the conclusion he reached is that he need to get stronger in order to protect the princess(that was trying to pick a new hero to take his place)

I have the impression that dude actually came from another world different from ours. The first thing he says he was fighting a horde implying his world has monsters too. Also, doesn't seem like he was playing a video game or just like Touya he would have a similar reaction. Pretty sure there were other bits and pieces of him which implies he isn't a Earthling but came from world that is closer to the one he got summoned too.
