Honestly, I think he would have if his investigation had led to a unmarried young lady with a healthy relationship with her family. So I see his actions as both the over protectiveness of a yandere of their special person, and the burning need to punish those who have caused them pain.

Needless to say things would also have gone very different if she was already married... though I just glad she wasn't a young child...
