One of the members of the Scottish royal house Stewart ended up marrying someone from France, except that French doesn't seem to have a character equivalent to "W" so they changed their family name to "Stuart" so that the French speakers would know how to pronounce it correctly.
The word "Stewart" itself is also the Scottish word meaning "steward" and the original title for the ruler of Scotland was "High Steward of Scotland".

At one point the James VI of Scotland (of clan Stewart) became the ruler of Scotland, England and Ireland, so it seems that the Shadow Monarch is using that lineage to claim that the he is the one true ruler of the British Empire.
