So should all of La's expletives and french witticisms also be translated or did the writer keep those to remind the readers that he's very french?

It's because he doesn't want to be understood, he wants to make them listen to him speak French. The bracelets don't translate languages, they let you communicate your heart to the world, or whatever. He doesn't want to communicate intelligible information, he wants to communicate Frenchness.

Okay yeah, so we invade other peoples hearts and amplify negative emotions, but in order to do that we connect with them first. This cannot possibly backfire.

That is in fact, the opposite of the way they do things, unless they have a particularly twisted definition of what 'hurting' someone means, I suppose.
