I guess we're just supposed to ignore the fact that there's no way in hell she could have survived being stabbed through the heart by a katana and then left laying in a burning smoke filled village for who knows how many minutes until Tokimaru showed up. That's the power of being important to the story I guess, garunteed invincibility. Also pre-corrupt Mai was adorable, I hope they can bring her to her senses.

@CSmith327 what about teleporting and hearing the voice of people's hearts? considering that in our world there are people who survived a shot to the head, I find it amusing that a stab to the chest to a trained shinobi in a shinobi village in THAT world is where you draw the line...

BUT AAAANYWAY I really really Love this arc, the enemies come one after another to separate the group like usual when it comes to shonen manga but I like all the characters so it's very enjoyable... and the author is going the extra mile to give us these beautiful colored pages too.

Thanks!

@Serenata Well for one she's just a normal human (albeit a trained shinobi) compared to the heroes with their special bracelets. Another thing; people that survive headshots is cuz of being grazed and not shot directly in a way that would fatality damage their brain. They're still left with permanent brain damage usually. Being stabbed directly through the heart by a sword like that, then being left on the floor in a village filled with smoke making it even harder to breathe would be impossible to survive. She probably would have died within seconds actually. Since this is a manga and not real life it's fine, but in rl she would have definitely died.

Only a person who is understanding and has a kind heart would pierce her own sister's heart with a sword. Yeah, no. No matter how hard they try to redeem her, in the end it will at best be a very distorted interpretation of the truth.

@CSmith372 seem worse in manga with less super powers, for all we don't know they might have a Secret Breathing Technique™ just for these inconvenient situations and the ninja ways to execute such a delicate operation in such remote village, maybe hitting some pressure points Hokuto Shinken style. So far in the story ninja are close to superheroes, so it's whatever.

@fflogschampion Did you happen to miss the black tears or the ring on her hand on the page where she stabbed Ai? Stigma corrupted her, same as he tried to do to Ikko at the start of the series. He took her care for life and her frustration, feelings likely amplified after Tokimaru was taken in, and twisted them.

If it's revealed that the good sword was used by Tokimaru to revive her in the next chapter that would be pretty neat. If she just miraculously survived then that's kinda dumb.

50 chapters, Yay! How do we celebrate? *Looks at the name of the chapter* Oh, I see.

Anyway, so, can we speculate Tokimaru is the one burning the villages down? And he took instant interest in Mai, right? I'm not sure if it was intentional but hey it would be a nice twist if he was a villain all along actually. Better than all the death flags raised before the mission. Also, I sort of couldn't care less about the shinobi or the sisters so I would appreciate anything really unexpected happening.

@CSmith327 That's *not* where humans have their heart tho. It's off to the left of that. The thrust went through either the low end of the trachea or bit below it between the lungs where there are no critically vital organs.

Bet your ass that was intentional. Had she been going for the kill and merely misplaced the initial thrust it'd have been the most trivial thing to finish off the disabled Mai so, yeah.

@RNDM1 Ah you're right I forgot about the heart being a little offset to the left. But maybe what the mangaka's planing is to have the good (heart) sword help heal her next chapter. Either way it being in the center and going all the way through wouldn't it have hit her spine?

@CSmith327 The spine is hella tough and can deflect *rifle bullets* if they don't hit square on. Not sure that stab came at an angle where it'd hit it anyway. Definitely severed at least one rib at the base tho.

Mind you the primary blood vessels into and out of the heart WOULD be where the blade went in; not sure what kind of pressure the aorta runs on but that scene ought to have been Hell of a lot messier...

So, the Amalreiks members don't need to be dead, they only need the rings(Mai has a ring in page 17).

Remember that she didn't just heal that wound, she's very weak now as result of that attack and she probably can't fight for long periods of time
