More American poison infecting Japanese society. Getting money for spreading leg

For starters, a slave would be worth much more than an employee of the same qualifications, simply because slave trade is illegal, and because a slave can provide services an employee will not.The logic in this is questionable.
I think it’s more like “indentured servant” than slaveThe logic in this is questionable. Slaves aren't being paid anything, that's why they are slaves. Food and shelter are the only things a slave can expect, but not necessarily quality ones. Medical care would only happen if it's cheaper than the value of the slave's work in the near future. If a slave loses the ability to work, well, anyone can imagine what would happen then.
The dude could have just hired her as a maid.
In most cases, a paid employee can be entrusted with greater amount of resources, while needing less supervision. For starters, a slave would be worth much more than an employee of the same qualifications, simply because slave trade is illegal, and because a slave can provide services an employee will not.
This is clearly not an alternative-present setting with legal slavery.Furthermore, it's not hard to imagine an alternative-present setting in which a slaveowner has good reasons to care for his slaves. For instance, there might be prestige in owning a number of attractive and well-cared-for slaves, as in a handicap principle. Or slaves could be expected to be useful outside the house, too, which would require treating them well enough not to be reported each time a slave is sent shopping.
That is all before voluntary live-in slavery, which is absolutely a possibility in the realm of consensual BDSM.
That depends strongly on particular circumstances. In most cases, a paid employee can be entrusted with greater amount of resources, while needing less supervision.
Uh-huh, employees can also be paid below-subsistence wages, lol.Employment is also good for capitalism, because employees can be fired and hired as needed, and only paid for the labor provided. While slaves cost a lump sum at the start, and can't be easily resold.
That's a curious outlook. How does the modern technology preclude having slaves, if such an arrangement is culturally considered acceptable? Not that any setting with our level of technology can afford to have slaves. Technology severely narrows the possible social arrangements, and various astro-feudal settings in some sci-fi are laughable.
Keeping slave as a pet? Sure, it can be done. That's a curious outlook. How does the modern technology preclude having slaves, if such an arrangement is culturally considered acceptable?
Well, there goes that.Keeping slave as a pet? Sure, it can be done.
Forced labour is profitable enough for the US to have private prisons built around it.Keeping slaves in the workforce? Nope, they'll get everybody killed. And even if not, it would take 3 free men to fix mistakes that a single slave makes. A slave has no reason to work well, and certainly no reason to learn to work even better. What are you going to do, send them to prison? That would be like a vacation.
Every job that can be done by a team of slaves and a guard, is better done by a free man and a machine that can't be entrusted to a slave.
First, slaves needn't be foreigners: plenty of societies, historically, where enslavement was a punishment for a crime, or a way to pay your family's debts, including our early medieval Russian one.Of course, culture is also dictated by tech level. And the culture in question is nationalism. Nationalism is the backbone of huge armies. So, you want to keep Russians as slaves? Well, prepare for Russian tanks, because we Russians have a country dedicated to defending our rights.
Those are ideological points, not technological. The Soviet Union was not inevitable, and it's not around anymore. The New Age humanism that saw the destruction of slavery as an institute across Europe well before our Revolution is still around today, but I don't think there are too many ideologically motivated actors in politics these days. If anything, the achievements of democratic socialism, which were also largely won to build a viable counterbalance to a socialist state next door, are eroded year after year. The other culture is communism. Don't like being a slave? Well, of course you don't. Let the nice guys from Soviet Union smuggle you some weapons so that you can make your country a better place. Appeasing the populace with more and more concessions is the only way for capitalist countries to survive.
Some slaves got (get) paid wages.Slaves aren't being paid anything, that's why they are slaves.
