For starters, a slave would be worth much more than an employee of the same qualifications, simply because slave trade is illegal, and because a slave can provide services an employee will not.

Thats fair i suppose, but how does that benefit the slave. If the master chooses so, a slave will never reap the benefits of their value, unlike an employee who can advertise their talents to other employers and possibly get a better salary, benefits,etc. , a slave can not search for a new master and therefore can't improve their situation in accordance with their value.

Furthermore, it's not hard to imagine an alternative-present setting in which a slaveowner has good reasons to care for his slaves. For instance, there might be prestige in owning a number of attractive and well-cared-for slaves, as in a handicap principle. Or slaves could be expected to be useful outside the house, too, which would require treating them well enough not to be reported each time a slave is sent shopping.

You don't have to imagine this. In real life house slaves are kept prettier than say slaves meant for manual labor, this does not stop them from being horrificly abused.

That is all before voluntary live-in slavery, which is absolutely a possibility in the realm of consensual BDSM.

Consent requires both parties to be able to express willingness to engage in a situation. A slave by definition can not revoke their consent from their master, the master gives consent for both parties, therefore a slave can't give consent.

In a world where you could make a cleverly worded craigslist post and have someone at your door ready to be degraded in any which way for enough money, the likely hood that you'd find a decent person who is looking to buy slave in extremely slim. In fact id go so far as to say the vast majority of them are malicious.

I suppose considering this is a manga I should be suspending my disbelief a bit more, but this shit is just stupid.

I think the joke is supposed to be that this guy got enslaved, by a slave, to be the slave's master, after freeing her from her slavery.
