You can boil down anything to the bare bones and it'll seem completely uninteresting.

Sure, the old mantra "there are no bad tropes". It's more of how it was played out in context, which I didn't find particularly interesting. 'Like if the mystery was about her circumstances, then it quickly evaporated into: "she's just a walking corpse, that's all there is to it."
