The picture depicts three men dressed in three different styles of clothing.
Maybe three countries came together to develop the technology necessary to create the golems?

It also depicts the sun at the top, a cloud to the left, the mountains and vegetation on the sides and wind on the background, but only the earth with no vegetation on the ground.

Maybe the civilizations that came together lived in a harsh environment where they had to prepare the earth with more difficulty than other people, and given the weather it was harsh on their bodies, so they developed the golems to work for them, since they would be sturdier and work tirelessly.

Let's see if my line of thought aligns with the author's.

IIRC he used "robot" the very first time he saw one too, and then was corrected

reminds me of a character named Fuji, one the Juppongatana from Rurouni Kenshin. a gigantic human and formidable living weapon under Shishio's order. after the fall of Shishio, Fuji worked for the goverment to aid land development
