As a kid, I was told that you can get nightcrawlers to surface by squirting mustard into the dirt. No idea if that makes any sense or not. Using a mini-thumper, I equally have no idea if that works, but it is explained well enough in this chapter. That tool reminded me of music class, which had some ribbed sticks to rub together for the music.
