What!? No he didn't! If he had put everything on the line, that would have included his research; in that instead of using the flawed one, he'd have used the improved one.... Unless the improved one didn't have that bound bit.
He was basically selfish/inferior till the end, in that he wanted to prove his superiority rather than being a researcher that leaves knowledge behind, or a father that does whatever to save his daughter..... Though, I guess he was a superior human(modern), with their pride and such.
