That part about thinking about them as "people" instead of just "parents", I realized I've done that already but don't remember exactly at which point I switched from one to the other, never thought about this kind of stuff. They really got philosophical there but it was necessary for our protags to bond with their family.

Please don't take half a year for the next chapter.

What a social construct exploration. This relativism ain't no good. What a degenerate view of persons you are meant to have a special relationship with and degrade them to "just" people in your every day life to make your self comfortable around them. Let's take away the bond family members share, because they are anyhow just people. Parents by that idealizing are just replaceable junk that you came out of. Totally interchangeable.

@Airwave2k2 I didn't interpret Koi's monologue as degradation at all, but instead coming to the realisation that her parents are also regular humans, and they've had life experiences that every person has had, with obvious variations. Instead of just seeing them within their role in the family, they can see them as their own individual. They're both being stiff and overly polite because they're understandably coming to terms that they have a new parent, but in order to get over that stiffness they need to understand that person more, in order to grow more comfortable.

It seems to me you interpreted it as really negative, just because you recognise someone as a person doesn't mean you just get rid of a bond you have with them. It doesn't break down the wall but rather sidesteps around it in order to facilitate their bonds
