Oh... suddenly, a solid chapter dedicated to one really interesting character? I'm intrigued.
For some reason, I want Ryuu to find himself a girlfriend. Cute, busty, taciturn, maybe looking slightly slow or stupid (in an "airhead" or "down-to-earth" way, not really stupid, of course), kind and VERY hard-working and dedicated to her job. I guess this king of girl would be an ideal girlfriend for him. Not polar opposite, not too similar, but the one who will be beside him and let them complement each other in many ways. The one who would say something like "I'm not very smart and I don't understand many difficult things, but I want to be here for you, because I know how you work very hard".

A taller onee-san type that he'll catch up to as he hits 17-18? The "ara ara" type who works a relatively straightforward job at one of the pubs or inns or something in town? Maybe like Kawamoto Akari from 3-gatsu no Lion?

Think about someone like Miyazawa Yukine or Fujibayashi Ryou from Clannad, but more "kuudere" (like Kaburagi Minami from HaiFuri, BTW, a genius 12-year-old medic too =) ).

Taller - well, yes, a good idea, but not "onee-san", Ryuu doesn't need it. He needs someone equal to him in terms of relationships. And he already has Shirayuki as his "onee-san" for a pretty long time. =)
Definitely not, all these "ara ara" characters looks for me in most cases like a mother substitutes... BTW, he was 12 when Shirayuki arrived in Clarines? Just where are his parents?
Or being a librarian or someone like that)

A kuudere doesn't make much sense, because Ryuu is kuudere already. They might struggle to get past a professional relationship, unless one of them experiences a significant change driving them toward romantic expression.
Also, if this is a late medieval society played relatively straight then children leave home to start professional apprenticeships between ages 10-15. Ryuu is only unusual in that we don't know anything about his parents at all, but all the characters besides Zen seem to be independent of their families from a young age (and Zen has the excuse that royalty is a family business).

No, for me it actually makes sense. "Classic" kuudere archetype almost always overlaps with introvert type of personality, and Ryuu is an example for it. And being an introvert myself, I can say that I can't stand most people who are too outgoing or unnecessary cheerful - they're TOO NOISY and they irritate me. =_= It's much better if an introvert's girlfriend have a calm/introverted personality too (of course, not to the point of being extremely quiet or unable to express herself like pure kuudere), or at least just being caring, but not too invasive, like Shirayuki. This way two introverts could easily coexist without getting on each other's nerves. Yes, these relationships could be pretty slow at the point of getting to know each other, but afterwards they can become really strong.
And actually, that's why I like Yuzuri so much. She's always cheerful and pretty emotional, but she's not invasive and doesn't irritate me in the least. I like how somewhere her personality was described as "bubbly" - it actually fits her. =)
P.S. And kuuderes could be very passionate if being treated the right way) Still waters run deep.
