i'm so sick of the "mother hides daughter's relationship from father" trope, as if fathers have no authority over their own family. it's pure evil.
Imagine thinking of it in terms of 'authority,' what a disgusting view of family, but also irrelevant here. It's not being hidden from him because he 'wouldn't approve/wouldn't allow it,' it's being hidden because the mother is wanting to protect his feelings. They're doing it for his sake.
He's not just the generic overprotective father archetype, something actually happened that deeply wounded Nanami in the past giving a strong motivation for that protectiveness, something that made stop going to school and hate boys (which is where his apparent attitude comes from. He's not doing it because he hates them, he's doing it because he thinks Nanami hates them and is keeping them away to stop her getting hurt again or suffering.) Since revealing that Kaori was a boy all along would be a painful shock to him, it seems like Mama to acclimate him a bit more first.
