Anyone else bothered by the fact that he doesn't think Nanami can take care of herself?

No, I get it. Protecting her is everything to him. What he said about the memories of how much that guy fucked up her mental health were burned into his mind, I completely understand.

Also, the whole "oh you think I can't take care of myself" bit is inherently wrong. I'm sure everyone that got themselves murdered or killed in an accident had plenty of people who thought that person could take care of themselves.
