thanks for the chapter - best of luck on your upcoming exams; I'm sure you'll do great.

I'm gonna assume the newspapers have to do with Kazumi's abuse. Rolling them up and using them as beating rods sounds about correct - though 'banning them', as it seems the grandfather is doing, makes it sound like he's potentially realized the error of his treatment of his daughter, potentially? Not enough to actually apologize, but more just to outright remove the memory of it, possibly relating to feelings of shame over remembering each time he saw a newspaper.

If that's the case, then perhaps it could be "resolved", or at least the process can be begun, by forcing encouraging an actual meeting between Kazumi and her father, and getting them to try and mend things - or at least apologize and seek some level of closure.

Dunno how that resolves Kazumi's own twisted generational trauma abuse, but it would hopefully be a step on that path.

next is dumping the teacher's body in the river but that's more a personal desire of mine

That's all assuming Kazumi is even telling the truth which I am not yet convinced of to say the least.

I think grandpa used to hit Kazumi with harisen made from newspaper paper (you can see Reitaro holding one in the final panel). Also explains the Kazumi’s beatings being “so strong they echoed through the whole house” thing cuz harisens are loud.

However, being hit by a harisen shouldn’t be painful. I think Kazumi is just lying about her abuse, or at least exaggerating it.

Lmao did she get traumatised by paper fan used for gags? :kek: I hope that and not actual beat down using rolled up tube of paper, that can hurt.

How come the most logical person in this story is the middle schooler girl and not the parents

I think Kazumi isn’t necessarily “lying” about the abuse, since she didn’t say it was extremely painful or that it left marks, just that it was very loud. I think it humiliated her a lot, and maybe the noise was part of that? (So that even if her sister wasn’t in the room, she’d know Kazumi messed up and was getting hit?)
Kazumi focuses a lot on humiliation and being looked down on, but we still don’t know anything about what her mother was like…

Jesus, why do I read this still? Every chapter is so frustrating or infuriating to read. Not a normal person is present int his manga save for the one teacher that clocked that Ichika's teacher is a manipulative scumbag. The dad and Ichika are probably neurodivergent or something.

imo it doesn't necessarily have to be humiliating. Kids can be scared of being hit regardless if it hurts. It could very well be traumatic enough for her to fear her dad to the extent she does now.

I think the one getting hit was not Kazumi, but her sister, in a separate room. Kazumi not knowing what it looked like would only hear the loud noises the harisen made, and being a kid she was definitely shocked/traumatized in some way.

Doesn't excuse her absolutely deranged mental reasoning in this chapter, though, what the fuck do you mean "let's go back to before when Ichikanwas born"? After all the shit she did to her family? Insane.
