Wish people would stop translating university as college. 大学 is university which is what they say here and what is usually being referenced as universities are the primary higher education in Japan. Like I mean Tokyo U you always hear about is Tokyo university (東京大学) not Tokyo college.

University and college aren't actually interchangable as college focuses more on vocational studies. For whatever reason 短期大学 gets translated as junior college despite being written the same as university.

At least it isn't as cancerous as using stuff like sophomore.

that's regional. there is no way to translate it that will sound perfect to every English speaker.
